My college roommate, Nicole, just bought a house in Raleigh, NC. She’s a nurse and works at one of the local hospitals there. Since this is her first house, I wanted to make and send her a “congratulations on your new home” card. And like I’ve said before, a card is nice. But a handmade card is even sweeter.
I found this card and knew I could easily recreate it.
First, I started with my card. I took my background paper and cut it down to fit just around the “inside” of the front of the card.
Next, I cut the main patterned paper smaller than the tealy-blue polka dot paper and attached it to the card.
For the house, I took a piece of white scrapbook paper and marked off a 2″ x 3″ box.
Inside the rectangle, I drew a house, like the one in the inspiration photo. Since my card was going to be vertical, I made the house more tall.
After cutting out the house, I took a pink marker and drew little lines around the house (kind of like stitch marks almost).
I cut out another small rectangle (probably about 1″ x 2″), used the pink marker around the edges, and used a teal marker for the words “new home”.
After attaching the house and the sign to the card, this is what it looked like. But it was still missing something…
…a button! The finishing touch was adding a button on the lower right hand side. I used a needle and thread to attach it to the card.
This was really easy to make, and it’s incredibly cute too!!
Just so you guys know, I’ll be on another vacation this next week. John and I are heading up to PA to visit his parents! So if you don’t hear from me, you’ll know why Happy crafting,
